From the moment it was invented, at the crossroads of poetry and boxing, Rimboxing Club has been a hybrid experience. From literature and the body arts came movement scores and an original system of notation. Research into linguistics and physics has given rise to astrolinguistics, which projects literature into a way of thinking about space-time, as well as Parley, the Rimboxing Club game.
All these constituent elements of what is now Rimboxing Club are independent of each other. However, they respond to and support each other. A text can be transformed into a movement score; this score can be danced or boxed, but it can also be played on the Parley board. Alternatively, a game of Parley can be used to generate a score, which can then be choreographed, used as a kata, or used as a constrained text. On a more theoretical level, the Rimboxing Club game and the astrolinguistic maps are also a way of thinking about the nature and construction of language.
The scores, maps and game are thus different ways of returning to literature and the arts in a new way. They have a perspective, a continuity through other forms and other media. By using them, we discover a small coherent world, fed by hybrid thoughts, open to the diversity of disciplines of research and expression.
